The Playtime! Project Training
Playtime! Practicals is our highly successful and effective one-day training course for
lunchtime supervisors. Playtime! Practicals has already been run by several local authorities across
England for schools in their area, and you can read more about what the participants have said about
the course at the sides of this page.
Course Content
Playtime! Practicals introduces participants to playwork theory within the context of working in
primary school playgrounds. The course content is based on our innovative approach which has successfully
resulted in putting play back into playtime in many primary schools (click here for more details). Whilst
grounded in playwork theory, Playtime! Practicals takes a realistic approach to the practicalities
of play at playtime and includes easily achievable, low-cost solutions to barriers that we have come
across when working with schools.
By the end of the course participants will have;
developed skills in facilitating play in the playwork sense
improved their knowledge regarding playwork theory
examined their attitudes regarding barriers to facilitating play
developed their reflective practice
increased their confidence in being able to explain the value of a playwork approach to others.
We use unique audio-visual materials from our work in schools to show examples of what a playful
playtime looks like and to promote reflection and discussion of key learning points. We also spend
time throughout the day discussing how to use and adapt the knowledge and skills covered, which enables
participants to return to their schools with lots of workable ideas to put into practice.
