Our training
Adults work with children in a huge variety of settings as more children are spending more of their time in 'supervised' leisure activities. We believe that wherever children spend their free time, they have the same needs and the same rights. All children need to be able to make their own choices and decisions, to have a say in the services which affect them, to be able to play freely and to have stimulating and challenging environments in which to do so.
Play which is determined and controlled by children plays an important part in the development of vital social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional skills, and we are therefore particularly concerned to promote the value of play throughout all of our training courses, from the Playwork Induction Standard to management skills.
All our training courses contain unique audio-visual materials which we have commissioned specially to illustrate key learning points. Also, to aid your learning experience even more we provide colourful, easy-to-follow and comprehensive handout packs so you will always have to hand the most salient points.
Our courses enable participants to develop their practice because they are built on five consistent objectives. Whatever the topic or the level, all of our courses aim to help participants to:
- Develop their skills
- Improve their knowledge
- Examine their attitudes
- Develop their reflective practice
- Increase their confidence
This means that by the end of our courses, participants should be able to leave with new techniques for achieving good practice underpinned by the theory to explain why it works. They should also feel good about themselves and the training course!
Training for Groups and Individuals!
Traditionally we have always delivered training to groups across the UK which have been organised for us by local authorities, voluntary organisations, etc. For over thirteen years now we have worked with over 150 organisations to develop good practice in playwork, early years and childcare settings through training, publications and consultancy.
We have also now developed our own training programme which individual practitioners can book themselves onto, in response to requests from practitioners for our courses!
